Visit to Thai Customs

On the 22nd of April, the Director of Capacity Building visited Thai Customs for a meeting with the Director General of Thai Customs, Dr Sathit Limpongpan.
Amongst other issues, Mr. Karlsson and Dr Sathit talked about the implementation of the SAFE Framework of Standards in Thailand and the possibilities for Thailand to participate in the Columbus programme. Dr Sathit announced his personal support and the strong support of his administrations for the SAFE Framework of Standards. The Director General also stated his will for Thailand to be part of upcoming pilot actions as a result of the SAFE implementation phase.
Director Karlsson and Director General Limpongpan agreed on a proposed time for a Columbus diagnostic mission to take place in Thailand. In the beginning of May, the WCO Secretariat received the signed letter of intent from Thailand, acknowledging the commitment to fast implementation of the SAFE Framework of Standards. A diagnostic mission is planned to take place in July 2006.
