One of the most important components of the WCO Capacity Building strategy is to build a pool of accredited capacity building experts that can support the implementation of the second phase of the Columbus programme. On the 26th to 28th the first Columbus programme phase workshop to accredit implementation experts, in this case in the area of strategic management were organized in Ottawa by the WCO in cooperation with CBSA. The first workshop was organized for managers from CBSA and USCBP. The workshop was conducted by the Deputy Director of Capacity Building, Mr. Joe Kelly and it was a great success. The WCO will during 2008 organize a number of similar workshops around the world to develop the pool of accredited experts in different competence areas matchmaking the needed skills and competence needs that have been identified during the first diagnostic phase of the Columbus programme. These areas are documented in the WCO trends and Patterns report 1 and 2.
