The WCO recently participated in an event organized and funded by the Commercial Law Development Programme (CLDP), United States Department of Commerce. CLDP is tasked with providing technical assistance in the commercial law arena to the governments and private sectors of transitional countries in support of their economic development goals. The workshop was held in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. Customs officials from four Central Asian countries attended the event ; Afghanistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan. Facilitators from US Customs and Border Protection agency gave presentations and conducted exercises on risk management and Customs Valuation. The WCO facilitator covered the Revenue Package programme, designed to assist Customs administrations with fair and efficient revenue collection. Particular attention was given to valuation controls, the use of a valuation database as a risk assessment tool and Post Clearance audit.
