06 November 2015

Rijeka, Croatia 27-29 October 2015

Fostering cooperation among the competent law enforcement structures is a core element and objective of activities in the framework of UNODC-WCO Container Control Programme. For this purpose, officers of the Joint Cargo Container Control Units in Bosnia and Herzegovina (JCCCU) of Bosnia and Herzegovina and of Montenegro had the opportunity to participate in a three-day Work Study Visit to the Port of Rijeka in Croatia.

Hosted by the Customs Administration of Croatia, the officers discussed numerous aspects of regional and international challenges posed by cross-border organized crime and all forms of illicit trafficking. The Study Visit to the Port of Rijeka had a specific focus on topics such as risk analysis and profiling of containerized shipments, information exchange, cooperation of Customs with other law enforcement structures, cooperation with the Private Sector, among other issues.

During the visit, the participants had the opportunity to learn about the IT solutions applied by the Customs Administration of Croatia in the areas of risk profiling, intelligence assessments and analysis. This was complemented by practical exercises of detailed physical search of containers and the use of scanning equipment.

This UNODC-WCO activity was implemented in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Rule of Law and Security Sector Reform Programme.
