Day one of the Conference provides an opportunity to identify the research opportunities in the Customs environment. Though a series of presentations and group discussions delegates will examine the current research available in five key Customs areas, identify gaps and make proposals for future research projects.

The Professionalization of Customs
 
Through a series of presentations and group discussions delegates will look at the developing professionalism of Customs and the setting of common standards for Customs development. The deliberations should provide clarity on the roles of the WCO, Universities, and Research Establishments, and the opportunities for collaboration and the promotion of academic engagement with Customs administrations.
