| Conference: | This conference, organized by the EastWest Institute and hosted by the World Customs Organization, has become a landmark trans-Atlantic event bringing together the private sector with leading government officials and high-level representatives of international institutions. For the first time, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation will co-sponsor a third day’s programme focusing on Public-Private Partnerships Against International Terrorism. It is anticipated that this session will feed into the Russian G8 Presidency and significantly expand these important partnerships. This special event will offer participants new ways of looking at public-private cooperation against terrorism. These Worldwide Security Conferences in Brussels began as a response to concerns by the private sector and governments on both sides of the Atlantic to develop a more comprehensive and collaborative counter-terrorism effort. The Third Annual Worldwide Security Conference will bring together some 350 leaders from both sides of the Atlantic with guests from around the world to examine what has been achieved in protecting society from terrorism since our last conference a year ago, and to set future priorities for a more effective fight against terrorism. This conference will focus heavily on public-private partnerships in the fields of surveillance, critical infrastructure, communications and information security, as well as border control. As in previous years, the recommendations generated by this conference will be brought before relevant governments, international institutions and leading actors in business circles. |
