Title:
Getting to grips with Origin
Subtitle:
A two day conference focusing on the application of rules of origin around the world
Date:
16-17 June 2008
Location:
WCO Headquarters, Brussels, Belgium
Introduction:
Listen, learn and network with key leaders from the public sector, multilateral organisations and the business world at the World Customs Forum 2008. The World Customs Organization (WCO) will host a two-day event at WCO Headquarters in Brussels, Belgium from 16-17 June 2008 to examine the current environment and recent developments relating to rules of origin.

Established in 1952 and representing 171 Member Customs administrations globally, the WCO is at the heart of international Customs initiatives. Given the central role that Customs services play in the management of rules of origin in most countries, the WCO is well placed to raise this issue. The Conference provides the perfect opportunity to visit the WCO, the voice of the international Customs community and the centre of global Customs excellence.
Objectives:
Rules of origin are now more topical than ever. They have become a very prominent feature of today’s trading system and the business press regularly reports on various regional trade arrangements being negotiated across the globe. These rules enable preferential arrangements to be implemented and thus may promote the development of trade and encourage investment. The aim of this Conference is to provide a discussion forum in which Customs administrations, the business world, international and regional organizations, and other players in the global trade community can openly express their concerns, expectations and new ideas in order to improve the administration and management of these rules of origin."
Participant profile: The World Customs Forum 2008 is intended for specialists in international trade, taxation and Customs issues: senior Customs, revenue and tax officials; trade negotiators, lawyers, consultants, chartered accountants, auditors, supply chain and logistics managers, international traders, financial controllers, tax practitioners; Customs brokers, freight forwarders, express carriers; academics, researchers and representatives from relevant international organisations.
What you will gain from attending this conference?
The panel sessions and plenary discussions will provide an opportunity to:
  • set the rules of origin against a backdrop of globalization;
  • understand how to deal with rules of origin and to better use the potential benefits of preferential trade arrangements;
  • examine the real impact of rules of origin on the development of international trade and on the encouragement of investment;
  • study actual cases illustrating the management of the wide range of rules of origin and their application against economic realities;
  • discuss the issue of procedures for justification of goods origin, as well as the role of the different players involved;
  • benchmark best practices with private sector companies who have already implemented their solutions.

Broaden your insight and remain one step ahead!
