Dialogue on Capacity Building with International Donor Institutions in Canada and the United States of America

In occasion of his recent visits to the United States of America and Canada the Director of the WCO Capacity Building Directorate Lars Karlsson took the opportunity to meet with representatives of several donor institutions, Parliamentarians and high level customs representatives, namely
- World Bank
- International Monetary Fund
- Canadian International Development Agency
- USAid
- Hon. Maxime Bernier, Canada's Minister of Foreign Affairs
- Ms. Mary Zamparo, Vice-President of The Canada Border Services Advisory Committee (CBSAC)
- Mr. Michael C. Mullen, Director, Office of International Affairs and Trade Relations, U.S. Customs & Border Protection
Aim of these meetings was the establishment of a closer dialogue between WCO and the mentioned institutions / authorities taking into account the pursuit of common strategies and goals in terms of customs modernization and capacity building programmes.
Opportunity was taken to present the potential of WCO partnership and to recall upon already existing co-operation, successfully implemented on regional level in the framework of the Columbus Programme.
