Establishment of a new post on Columbus Donor Liaison at WCO Secretariat

During the Global Dialogue on Capacity Building Donor Conference in South Africa in April 2007, participants from international institutions, development banks, development agencies and other donor institutions confirmed the value of the WCO holistic approach to capacity building and expressed an interest in co-operation with WCO in this concern.
To facilitate such co-operation and to allow for a regular information exchange with donor institutions the WCO Capacity Building Directorate created in August 2007 a new post and nominated Ms Elke Portz as Columbus Donor Liaison.
Ms Elke Portz will act as contact person for Donor institutions on all matters related to the Columbus Programme and in this way guarantee for a regular update of the donor community on the latest developments in the Columbus Programme.

Taking into account the success of the last Global Dialogue on Capacity Building in South Africa, it is furthermore intended to allow for a 2nd follow-up conference in October 2008, the concrete date and venue still have to be agreed.
Additional consideration is given to the organization of regional Donor Conferences in order to respond more accurately to modernization demands resulting from specific regional developments.
Ms Elke Portz will be responsible for the planning and organization of such conferences; she can be addressed with all questions concerned.
