Having completed over 100 needs assessments worldwide under the Columbus Programme, the WCO now has an extensive inventory of information on conditions within and without most Customs administrations. Drawing from this, the WCO launched the trends and patterns initiative in January 2007 with the aim of presenting a synthesis of the information collected from WCO diagnostic missions.
Thus far, eight trends and patterns reports have been published. The first issue was published in June 2007 and presented information on global trends and patterns identified during capacity building diagnostic missions. The second issue was published in December 2007 and presented information on security and trade facilitation analysed from the diagnostic missions.
In June 2008, the third issue was published and listed each Columbus Programme phase one and phase two mission. Also published in June 2008, were five regional trends and patterns reports.
