CENTRAL AFRICAN REPUBLIC : Through his presence, the President of the Republic raised the profile of the ICD 2022. The need to modernize the Customs administration with a view of maximizing domestic revenue was highlighted.

CHILE : The National Customs Service celebrated ICD 2022 virtually, during a major ceremony attended by its officials from Chile's many regions. On this occasion, Certificates of Merit were awarded to companies accredited as Authorized Economic Operators in 2021.

CHINA : On ICD 2022, China Customs hosted a hybrid event in which the WCO Secretary General participated virtually. The Vice-Minister of China Customs and other Customs representatives attended the celebration in situ. During the celebration, 21 Chinese Customs officers were awarded with the WCO Certificate of Merit by the Vice-Minister in recognition of their exceptional service in promoting digital and smart development of Customs.

DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF THE CONGO : Before an audience of over 150 representatives from Customs, border agencies and private sector partners, the newly appointed Director General of Customs and Excise gave a presentation on her management vision and plan of action.

DENMARK : Customs services across the country marked ICD 2022 by honouring 14 recipients of WCO Certificates of Merit. Due to COVID-19, the traditional celebratory breakfast held at all Customs sites sadly had to be cancelled. As a result and keeping in line with this year’s “data theme”, the celebrations were mainly held online.

DOMINICAN REPUBLIC : During a celebration held at Customs Headquarters on 26 January 2022, fourteen Customs colleagues - together with four public sector institutions and two private associations - were awarded Certificates of Merit for their contribution to Customs performance and to this year's theme.

ETHIOPIA : During the celebrations marking ICD 2022, the Deputy Commissioner for Customs Operations reiterated the need to build and effectively use data infrastructures within Customs, while maintaining data security and implementing data analytics technologies, including those related to artificial intelligence. Certificates of Merit were then awarded to individuals having contributed to Customs' performance in this area through outstanding service.

GEORGIA : On ICD 2022, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the US Department of State and Georgia's Ministry of Finance aimed at modernizing the Revenue Service (RS) information technology platform. In addition, WCO Certificates of Merit were awarded to 14 Customs officers and to representatives of partner agencies, international donor organizations and Georgia’s Banking Association, as well as to the RS Information Technology Centre for its contribution to digital technologies, information, and communication in Customs.

INDIA : ICD 2022 was celebrated with great enthusiasm across India. Various outreach programmes with all stakeholders were organized. In line with this year’s theme, this celebration gave the opportunity to emphasize the significant progress made by Customs towards digital transformation through data culture and data ecosystems. The Chairman of Customs urged all formations to continue driving forward this agenda through a virtual programme. WCO Certificates of Merit were also awarded to 19 Customs officers and a private-sector representative.

INDONESIA : On ICD 2022, Customs held a series of events in hybrid format. WCO Certificates of Merit were awarded to five teams and eight Customs officers for their contribution to this year's theme of digital transformation. Two experts from the Finance Ministry gave an address during a webinar. Lastly, in its capacity as WCO Asia/Pacific Vice-Chair, Indonesia Customs also invited all the region's Member Administrations to join in a virtual ICD celebration, which was attended by approximately 600 Customs officers from Indonesia, Brunei, Malaysia, and Maldives.

IRAN : On 26 January, the Islamic Republic of Iran Customs (IRICA) celebrated ICD 2022. On this occasion, WCO Certificates of Merit were awarded to Customs officials for their contribution to Customs’ performance.

LATVIA : Due to concerns about the current epidemiological situation, in 2022 National Customs Board again celebrated ICD online. Fifteen government officials and stakeholders were awarded WCO Certificates of Merit for their commitment to the digital transformation of Customs.

Mauritius : On ICD 2022, WCO Certificates of Merit were awarded in the presence of the Director of Customs (front row, middle) and other Directors, during the inauguration of the Integrated Customs Clearance Centre. The recipients included Customs officers, who discovered a new-born baby abandoned in a waste bin of an aircraft lavatory, and an Air Mauritius cabin crew member (front row, lady on the right), who helped save the baby's life.

MEXICO : The Head of the new National Customs Agency (ANAM), Mr. Horacio Duarte, made a special address to the audience after awarding WCO Certificates of Merit to Customs officers for their major contribution in 2021. Mr. Duarte shared an encouraging message on combating corruption in the Mexican Customs system and transforming through international cooperation with the WCO.

NIGER : ICD 2022 celebrations were held at the Mahatma Gandhi international Conference Centre in Niamey, in the presence of the Finance Minister (Customs' supervisory Ministry), the Minister of the Economy and private sector managers, not only to support Customs in this fresh push towards digitalization but also to emphasize the importance of Customs-private sector cooperation.

SAINT-LUCIA : Saint Lucia celebrated ICD 2022 by honouring its Customs heroes, including the retirees who have left Customs over the past five or six years. A ceremony, during which the theme of ICD 2022 was presented, was also held to award Certificates of Merit to Customs staff, including the secretary features in the photo.

SERBIA :In keeping with annual tradition, the Serbian Customs Administration (CAS) celebrated ICD 2022. The Acting Director General of CAS, Branko Radujko, awarded WCO Certificates of Merit to 19 Customs officials having demonstrated special commitment to the development of Customs and having contributed to its digital transformation, in line with this year’s theme.

SEYCHELLES : To commemorate ICD, the Seychelles Revenue Commission (SRC) held a mid-day mass, on 26 January, at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, in Victoria. The mass was led by officers from the SRC, in honour of all of its Customs officers and the dedicated group of people working alongside Customs.

THAILAND : Thai Customs celebrated ICD 2022 by awarding WCO Certificates of Merit to 25 Customs officials having demonstrated their commitment to the year’s slogan of scaling up digital transformation. Given COVID-19 measures in place, the celebrations were held in hybrid format with the in person attendance solely by awardees from the Bangkok Metropolitan Region, while the other awardees joined in the celebrations online.

UNITED STATES (CBP) : On the occasion of ICD 2022, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) honoured government officials with a virtual ceremony awarding 20 WCO Certificates of Merit to some 200 recipients. CBP Deputy Commissioner Troy Miller (upper left) delivered a keynote address in which CBP and ICE leadership recognized the hard work of their teams and international partners, both at headquarters and in the field.
