The WCO is dedicating 2017 to promoting data analysis under the slogan “Data Analysis for Effective Border Management.”
WCO Members will have the opportunity to showcase their efforts and activities in a sector that is becoming a key element in Customs modernization process: collecting and analysing data.

BAHRAIN: H.E. Lt-General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, the Minister of the Interior attended the ceremony to mark International Customs Day and the launch of the Customs Strategy. The event was also attended by the Deputy Minister of the Interior, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of the Interior in charge of nationality, passports and residence affairs, the Chief of Public Security, and the Undersecretary of the Ministry of the Interior.

GHANA: The Customs Division of Ghana Revenue Authority celebrated International Customs Day 2017 at the World Trade Centre, in Accra. Speeches and lectures were delivered around the theme “Data Analysis for Effective Border Management” and Certificates of Merit were awarded to deserving Customs officers as well as to external partners in the supply chain.

INDIA: In the presence of Hon. Finance Minister of India Shri Arun Jaitely as Chief Guest, Hon. Minister of State for Finance Shri Santosh Kumar Gangwar as Guest of Honour, Revenue Secretary Dr. Hasmukh Adhia, along with Chairman of the Central Board of Excise and Customs Shri Najib Shah, Members of the Board and senior Customs officers, 20 WCO Certificates of Merit were awarded to Customs officers from across the country and officers from partner public and private bodies who worked on data analysis for their commitment in this field.

KOREA: The Korea Customs Service (KCS) celebrated International Customs Day 2017 in the presence of foreign ambassadors to Korea as well as representatives from diplomatic missions and related entities. In his speech, the Commissioner of the KCS expressed his willingness to take the lead in matters related to international standards in the Customs area through improved Customs procedures and enhanced national and cross-border cooperation, and to achieve successful outcomes using more effective data analysis in order to implement international standards in the future.

LATVIA: The National Customs Board of the State Revenue Service (SRS) welcomed the opportunity provided by International Customs Day 2017 to show its gratitude and appreciation for the remarkable work and dedication demonstrated by its Customs staff. WCO Certificates of Merit were presented to several Customs officers who had made an exceptional contribution to achieving the goals of the SRS National Customs Board in 2016.

LITHUANIA: On the occasion of the International Customs Day 2017, the Director General of Customs Arūnas Adomėnas awarded WCO Certificates of Merit to 14 Customs officers who contributed most actively to the management of data analysis at Lithuanian Customs. The occasion was also used by Lithuanian Customs to celebrate the 15th anniversary of the activities of its Customs Criminal Service, and to reward the best Customs’ dog handlers.

ROMANIA: On the occasion of International Customs Day 2017, the Customs officers of Romania were congratulated by way of a message from the Vice-President of the National Agency for Fiscal Administration and Coordinator of Customs activities of Romania, Mr. Dorel Fronea. TURKEY: Turkish Customs marked the ICD celebration by giving due consideration to "data analysis" in a concerted and cooperative spirit. With the participation of the Prime Minister H.E. Binali Yildirim and Minister of Customs and Trade H.E. Bülent Tüfenkci, the ceremony was held at the Conference Hall of the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges. At the end of the ceremony, Minister Tüfenkci awarded 21 WCO Certificates of Merit to Customs officials and representatives of the private sector who had demonstrated their commitment to data analysis.
