AUSTRALIA: On 26 January 2023, being also Australia’s National Day, the Commissioner and Comptroller General of Customs of the Australian Border Force awarded its officers for their efforts and dedication to keeping Australia safe and prosperous. These awards are a testament to its commitment to its staff and this is particularly relevant noting that the WCO is dedicating 2023 to ‘Nurturing the next generation: promoting a culture of knowledge-sharing and professional pride in Customs.

BENIN: Customs celebrated ICD on 10 March 2023 with the participation of several technical partners and economic operators as well as the President of the National Assembly, Louis Vlavonou, a retired Customs official. On this occasion, WCO Certificates of Merit were awarded to agents for their outstanding performance as well as to three Authorized Economic Operators.

BERMUDA: ICD was celebrated by Customs during a week of activities from 22 to 27 January 2023. Here, we can see, the Clearwater middle school participating in the annual race celebrating ICD renamed the “Colin A. Smith memorial race” after the Senior Customs Officer Colin A. Smith. Pictured in the photo are not only members of the Customs Department, but also of the Police Service, the Royal Bermuda Regiment, the Department of Corrections and the Fire & Rescue Service.

CHILE: From the Aysén Region, in the extreme south of Chile, Director General of the National Customs Service, accompanied by Customs officers, celebrating ICD in the city of Coyhaique, with joy and satisfaction of the work they do every day for the security and development of the country.

COMORES: ICD 2023 was marked by a beautiful parade that thrilled the public. To the rhythm of the National Development Army band, the Customs brigadiers, with, for the first time, its motorised troop, marched together with the National Police, the Gendarmerie and the Civil Security. Several speeches were also made, including that of the Director General of Customs.

DENMARK: On ICD 2023, Certificates of Merit were awarded to 20 proud recipients and projects for their contributions to this year’s slogan, with a speech by the Director General of the Customs Agency, and breakfast buffets offered to all 1,000 employees across the country.

DOMINICAN REPUBLIC: During a celebration held at the Customs Headquarters on 26 January, 16 Customs colleagues from various departments - together with two public sector institutions and two private entities - were awarded a Certificate of Merit for their contribution to Customs performance.

FINLAND: Twenty Customs officers received WCO Certificates of Merit from the Director General of Customs, after he gave a speech. The photo shows Esa Rika, who was pleasantly surprised to receive one: “I really appreciate the acknowledgement. I have always tried to do my job as well as I could. I like my work and even though there are challenges, it is rewarding when there are successes.”

LITHUANIA: ICD was devoted this year to the nurturing of the young generation of Customs officers, and the Director General of Customs, Darius Žvironas, awarded a WCO Certificate of Merit to the Associate Professor, Juozas Valčiukas, the Director of Public Law Institute at Mykolas Romeris University Law School, which the Lithuanian Customs closely cooperates with.

NAMIBIA: The Revenue Agency joined the global Customs community in celebrating ICD 2023 at one of its flagship borders, Oshikango between Namibia and Angola. The event coincided with the launch of the new combat uniform for Customs officials, the first uniform since its establishment in 2021.
