The WCO-EAC Project Steering Committee (SC) which is comprised of the heads of Customs of the five East African Community (EAC) countries (Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania and Uganda), the EAC Secretariat, the Regional Programme Manager (RPM), ESA-ROCB, WCO and SITPRO representing the business community, met for the third time on 11 May 2009 in Kampala (Uganda).

From 18 -19 May 2009, the Europe Regional Heads of Customs Conference was held in Bergen (Norway). The Conference, which was hosted by the Norwegian Customs Administration, was attended by Kunio Mikuriya, the WCO Secretary General, and Martyn Dunne, the Chairperson of the WCO Council.

For the benefit of a better trade climate and higher regional integration the Customs services of the Southern Africa Customs Union –SACU- have committed towards the common implementation of a regional Economic Development Programme. Having agreed upon a regional Customs reform strategy the SACU region developed Terms of References for programme implementation in 6 core areas. National Project Mangers have been nominated in all SACU Members who are dedicated to this reform programme.
