Director of the SECI Center visits the WCO

At the invitation of the WCO Secretary General, Kunio Mikuriya, the Director of the SECI Center (Southeast Europe Cooperative Initiative Regional Center for Combating Trans-border Crime), Mitja Močnik, visited the WCO Secretariat on 8 May 2009.
The SECI Center, a regional organization bringing together customs and police authorities from 13 member countries in Southeast Europe, and the WCO signed a Memorandum of Understanding in 2005.
During the visit, several issues of mutual interest were discussed with a view to enhancing existing cooperation. Both parties agreed to exchange regular reports/newsletters in order to keep their members informed about activities that they may carry out.
Mr. Mikuriya stated that the WCO Secretariat would continue to support regional initiatives under the SECI umbrella in the fight against any type of crime. Both parties agreed to assign coordinators to maintain regular contacts in order to develop further cooperation.
