SIECA and WCO sign an MOU to boost Customs modernization

Secretary General of the Secretariat for Economic Integration in Central America (SIECA), Yolanda Mayora de Gavidia, and Secretary General of the World Customs Organziation, Kunio Mikuriya, signed an MOU in Antigua, Guatemala on 25 May 2010.

The MOU aims to formalize cooperation and consultation between the two organizations on matters of mutual interest, in particular the active promotion of Customs modernization through the adoption and implementation of WCO instruments and tools.

SIECA groups together five WCO Members in Central America – Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua. It was created in 1960 by treaty and supports the functioning of the free trade area, the strengthening of regional infrastructure, the Customs Union process, and joint policies and actions that promote cooperation.
