Visit by African Students from the University of Münster

Brussels, 27-28 February

Also this year, the WCO was host to a group of African students from the University of Münster. This visit to Brussels formed part of their Customs related Master study programme in Germany which is financed by the GIZ.

Students benefitted from individual talks with WCO staff members on their specific Transfer Project of studies, and attended presentations on Customs Accounting, Good Governance, Integrity Building, Customs Capacity Building Approaches and Programmes. As the visit took place in parallel to the 3rd Session of the WCO Capacity Building Committee, the students were able to attend and listen to presentations and discussions during some of the Committee’s agenda items.

Some feedback from the students on their visit to the WCO Secretariat included:

 “I realized what is happening in Customs capacity building in the African region, and that the WCO capacity building approach is responsive to the specific needs of African Customs administrations, e.g. modernization recommendations under the Columbus programme, AEO promotion, Revenue Package, IT infrastructure, etc.”;

 “I really enjoyed my bilateral encounter with the officer from the Secretariat - it provided me with a lot more insights from a practitioner’s perspective for my study project.“;

 “This visit was a good opportunity to learn even more about the international Customs Community and the importance of active participation and exchange of knowledge and experience at the Capacity Building Committee, before returning to my home administration.”
