Costa Rica becomes the 143rd Contracting Party to the WCO Harmonized System Convention

Costa Rica’s Ambassador to Belgium, H.E. Francisco Dueñas Leiva, visited WCO Headquarters on 3 July 2012 to formally deposit his country’s instrument of accession to the WCO Harmonized System Convention, making Costa Rica the 143rd Contracting Party.
The Ambassador confirmed Costa Rica’s commitment to the work of the WCO and the WCO Secretary General, Kunio Mikuriya, reiterated his willingness to continue to build on the positive cooperation that already exists with the Costa Rican Customs Administration.
A range of Customs and trade related topics were discussed with the Ambassador, with particular focus on trade facilitation, economic competitiveness, harmonization of procedures, Customs reform and modernization, and the Customs-Business partnership.
The Ambassador proposed that the topics covered during his meeting be taken up in more detail at a future meeting to be arranged between the WCO’s senior management and the Ambassadors from Central American countries in post in Brussels.
