On 16 July 2013, the Directorate General of Togo Customs organized a press conference on the outcomes of the two-year project aimed at improving the functioning of the Customs Administration through the introduction of performance measurement. The project was led by experts from the World Customs Organization and financed by the World Bank programme to improve trade and transit on the Abidjan-Lagos corridor.

In the first week of July 2013, the South African Revenue Service (SARS) hosted two Kenyan Revenue (KRA) Customs Service Department (CSD) officers in Pretoria, South Africa, in order to share and compare practical risk management experience. The WCO also took part in this activity which formed part of the Eastern & Southern Africa (ESA) Customs Capacity Building program that is financed by the United Kingdom’s Department for International Development (DfID).

The WCO-Ghana-Liberia tripartite agreement, signed in Brussels during the 2011 WCO Council Sessions, endeavors to support the Customs reform and modernization efforts of the Liberian Bureau of Customs and Excise (LBCE) in key priority areas, which include, among others, land border and seaport operations, risk management and statistics.

Under a project financed by the United Kingdom Customs Co-operation Fund, a National Workshop was held in Victoria (Seychelles) from 2 to 4 July 2013 aimed at (i) presenting the Harmonized System (HS) Convention to senior management from the Directorate General and Customs centres with responsibility for tariff classification and (ii) presenting two WCO Recommendations on the improvement of tariff classification work and related infrastructure and on the introduction of programmes for binding pre-entry classification information, in response to the questions raised in the diagnostic tool developed by the WCO.
