The World Customs Organization (WCO) has published its first edition of the WCO Illicit Trade Report, which comprises six chapters, each dedicated to a single thematic area, namely Drugs, Revenue, Intellectual Property Rights, Environment, Security and the Customs Enforcement Network (CEN), and includes an outline of WCO programmes and activities to combat illicit trade.

The Leaders agreed actions on trade, tax and transparency (“3Ts”) to support growth, prosperity and economic development around the world. The Communiqué recognized that trade is a key engine of global economic growth, and confirmed the Leaders’ commitment to reducing and streamlining bureaucracy at borders by resisting protectionism, concluding trade deals, strengthening the multilateral trading system, and helping developing countries slash barriers to trade, amongst others.

A WCO National Seminar on the Harmonized System was held in the Regional Training Centre (RTC) in Brasília, Brazil, from 3 to 7 June 2013. It was attended by 24 Customs officers from all over the country. The Undersecretary of Customs and International Relations of the Secretariat of the Federal Revenue of Brazil (RFB), Ernani Checcucci, highlihted the ongoing support of the WCO to meet the demands of Brazil in its capacity building initiatives and thanked the representative from the WCO Secretariat’s Directorate of Tariff and Trade Affairs for facilitating the high level discussions on tariff classification issues.
