Deputy Secretary General visits Indian Central Board of Excise and Customs

At the invitation of Ms. J. M. Shantisundaram, Chairperson of the Central Board of Excise and Customs (CBEC), WCO Deputy Secretary General Sergio Mujica visited the Indian Customs Administration in New Delhi from 14 to 16 April 2014 to discuss and support the various initiatives being implemented by Indian Customs to advance its modernization process.

Mr. Mujica held working meetings with Ms. Shantisundaram and with the Customs Member of the Board, Ms. Sobha Chary, to discuss the latest developments in the realization of the WCO Strategic Plan, including the WCO Roadmap to support the implementation of the WTO Trade Facilitation Agreement.

Mr. Mujica also had talks with CBEC’s management teams to learn about Indian Customs’ practical experience in the areas of transit, risk management and Authorized Economic Operators (AEOs).

The Deputy Secretary General then visited the Network Operating Centre to discuss the various IT systems India has developed to support Customs. Finally, he paid a visit to India's National Academy of Customs Excise and Narcotics (NACEN).
