WCO and UNCTAD Secretaries General Confer in Geneva

05 February 2014

WCO Secretary General Dr. Kunio Mikuriya met UNCTAD Secretary General Dr. Mukhisa Kituyi at the UN Office in Geneva on 3 February 2014.

The heads of these two international Organizations exchanged views on the implications of the WTO Agreement on Trade Facilitation (ATF) and agreed on the need to deliver needs assessment and technical assistance based on the global best practices incorporated in WCO tools, in order to avoid divergent implementation of the ATF. They also discussed how best to leverage on this opportunity to tackle complicated regulations beyond borders.

Both Dr. Mikuriya and Dr. Kituyi agreed on the importance of improving the efficiency of transport and logistics, where Customs plays a pivotal role, and of continued cooperation between the two Organizations.
