The Lesotho Revenue Authority (LRA) hosted the 2nd WCO Executive Level Retreat from 17-21 June 2014. The retreat concept is based on the WCO Leadership and Management Development (LMD) content and ensures congruence in terms of management language, strategic prioritization and ultimately organizational culture. WCO accredited LMD experts carried out the programme, which was made possible by the support of both the World Bank and the WCO Customs Cooperation Funds Finland.
The LRA Commissioner General wrote to the WCO seeking to bring together his whole Senior Executive team to clarify strategic priorities and enhance reform and modernization progress made. Prior to the retreat, questionnaires were completed by all participants. This documentation aided preparations of the schedule and agenda.
The group work covered strengthening the leadership capacity of the management team to better tackle the strategic challenges of the LRA in the future. These strategic organizational challenges were approached with a practical and to-the-point approach to identify solutions or techniques for dealing with them. The agenda also covered team building and individual leadership development of the members of the team.
Following the retreat, the LRA Commissioner General wrote to the WCO again saying:
"My team left not only up-beat but also committed to put in place deliberate experiments back at the work place, for them to practice what we have learnt. It was a very enlightening session that also helped to build a strong sense of trust within the team itself."
This WCO Executive Level Retreat will complement a LMD workshop planned for the Director-level group of the LRA in July this year.
