WCO assists with Support Programme for implementation of Cameroon Customs Modernization Plan (PAPMOD)

21 October 2014

The European Union has decided to lend its support to PAPMOD by financing a programme that includes, in particular, a nomenclature segment.

It was in this context that the Tariff and Trade Affairs Directorate held a training event on tariff classification.  A national workshop took place in Douala, Republic of Cameroon, from 13 to 17 October 2014, for 25 participants from the Legislation and International Cooperation Division, the Studies Unit, the Risk Management Unit and Customs Coastal Sectors 1 and 2.

The objective of the workshop was to give trainees the capability, after listening to presentations delivered by the trainers, to identify the correct tariff heading for specific goods through the use of case studies; therefore, in addition to a general presentation on the Harmonized System Convention and the amendments contained in the 2012 version of the HS, the workshop was devoted essentially to practical classification exercises.

The workshop also provided an opportunity to address issues related to regional integration arrangements (CEMAC Tariff) and the improvement of tariff classification work and related infrastructures.

Finally, participants were familiarized with the future Trade Facilitation Agreement (TFA) and its corollary in the nomenclature field, namely the binding tariff information programme;
