The WCO recently conducted a mission in Dar Es Salaam to provide further support on Customs valuation to the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA). The mission was the latest in a series of inputs as part of the Project for "Customs Capacity Building for WCO Members 2012-15" which is funded by the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (NORAD). The aim of the project is to deliver technical assistance to seven countries in specific areas of Customs operations.
During this event, a WCO facilitator and the NORAD fund manager met with key TRA senior managers to discuss a range of issues related to Customs valuation and the project in question. A mentoring session was held with TRA valuation trainers which was followed by a short valuation workshop for TRA officials, co-delivered by the WCO facilitator and the local trainers.
Other aspects of this programme under discussion are post-clearance audit, strengthening of business advisory services and reveiwing valuation processes and procedures. Further cooperation with TRA will take place in due course.
