The first Practical Training for officers from Customs and Police who form the new Port Control Unit was conducted by WCO training experts in Aqaba, Jordan, from 4 to 15 October 2015.
This training course largely focussed on risk assessment and profiling of illicit goods in containerized traffic and cover the core competences of a functioning Port Control Unit.
It became evident that the officers participating in this training fully embraced the lessons learned: A big seizure of undeclared pharmaceutical products and the biggest seizure of illegal sexual stimulants in Jordan were the tangible results of this CCP training.
The Theoretical Training (conducted in June 2015) and the Practical Training build the fundament for additional and more specialized training, provided in the framework of the Container Control Programme.
The WCO training experts lauded the commitment and professionalism of their Jordan colleagues.
The UNODC Regional Coordinators in the MENA region were of great support in the organizational and logistical arrangements for this training course which was generously funded by the United States.
WCO and UNODC look forward to a successful work of the new Port Control Unit in Aqaba.
