WCO Supports Western and Central Africa Region on Strategic Leadership in Information Technology

Back to back with the WCO IT Conference held in Dakar, Senegal, the WCO with the support of Senegalese Customs and Japanese Customs Cooperation Fund (CCF Japan) organized a Workshop on Strategic Leadership in IT from 30 - 31 May 2016. Thirty senior officials from twenty-four Customs Administrations from the Western and Central Africa (WCA) Region and its neighbouring Countries participated in the workshop.

In his opening remarks, the Senegalese Customs Director General Mr. Papa Ousmane Gueye highlighted the importance of senior management’s role in providing vision, guidance and coordination in the IT implementation.

The workshop raised the level of understanding on how top management could strategically oversee the IT implementation as an enabler to achieve organisation’s strategic business objectives. Based on the WCO IT Guide for Executive and case studies, the workshop addressed several related issues such as the establishment of the effective strategic planning process, governance structure, project management, continuous improvement, and business continuity management.
