The Dominican Republic Congress ratified the Trade Facilitation Agreement (TFA) in December 2016 and submitted the document of accession to the WTO which was accepted on 28 February 2017. The Dirección General de Aduanas (DGA) had conducted a self-assessment exercise gauging compliance with the WTO TFA prior to the lodgement process. Before prioritising initiatives and dedicating resources towards a range of TFA-specific areas, the DGA sought the independent advice of the WCO.

In April 2017, the WCO provided strategic support to the Cuban Aduanas General de la República (AGR) under the Mercator Programme. A team of WCO experts met with senior and front-line officials and made site visits to operational and commercial areas to evaluate preparedness for implementing the WTO TFA.

The World Customs Organization’s (WCO) Finance Committee has celebrated its 100th Session on Monday 10 April 2017 at the WCO Headquarters in Brussels. To mark this event, the members of the Committee as well as three former Chairpersons of the Committee (the current Secretary General Kunio Mikuriya, Robert Lüssi of Switzerland and Thomas Schöneck of Germany) were invited to a ceremony at which the Secretary General congratulated the Committee on its relentless efforts to support and advise the Council in budgetary and financial matters.

The Workshop was co-facilitated by a WCO Accredited Trainer on HS matters from the European Union (EU) and an expert Customs Chemist from the German Customs Laboratories (Munich).
