Upon request of Lebanese Customs, a WCO support mission was conducted from 24 to 29 July 2017 in Beirut to assist the Administration in building Project Management (PM) capacity taking due account of the WCO PM framework, as well as modern strategic planning methods. The mission was conducted with the financial support from CCF Euro customs.

Under the auspices of the West African Customs Administrations Modernization (WACAM) Project, the World Customs Organization (WCO) recently undertook a diagnostic mission that identified priority areas for support to Burkina Faso Customs, underpinning national efforts to implement the Trade Facilitation Agreement (TFA). The mission took place from 24 to 28 July 2017 in Ouagadougou.

In July 2017, on the margins of the World Customs Organization (WCO) 129th/130th Council Sessions, the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) signed bilateral Mutual Recognition Arrangements (MRA) with the Australian Department of Immigration and Border Protection (DIBP) and the Israel Tax Authority (ITA) in Brussels, Belgium. CBSA President John Ossowski signed the MRAs with the Australian Border Force Acting Commissioner Michael Outram and ITA Director General Moshe Asher respectively.

The WCO Secretary General Kunio Mikuriya, and the Secretary General of the Intergovernmental Organisation for International Carriage by Rail (OTIF), François Davenne, signed on Monday 10 July 2017 a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance cooperation between Customs administrations and the railways sector. This is the first formal arrangement on cooperation between the WCO and a railway organization. The signature of this MoU was organized in the margins of the WCO Global Transit Conference currently being held at World Customs Organization (WCO) Headquarters in Brussels.

The World Customs Organization (WCO) is currently hosting its first Global Conference on Transit at its Headquarters in Brussels. This event, which comes right after the annual WCO Council Sessions, sees the launch of a new tool for the facilitation of transit and establishment of efficient transit regimes, namely the Transit Guidelines. At the end of the first day of the conference, all the panelists agreed on the usefulness of the Transit Guidelines for further developing and implementing their respective transit systems. They urged the WCO to continue to update the Guidelines as a platform for future standardisation of transit systems.

The meeting was chaired by Mr. John Mein from PROCOMEX and attended by representatives from 17 of the 21 PSCG members – AAEI, BMW, CATERPILLAR, E-BAY, FIATA, FONASBA, FONTERRA, GEA, HAIER, HUAWEI, IATA, ICC, IFCBA, MICROSOFT, OPORA, PROCOMEX and SAAFF.

During its eight years of operation, the Programme has given 65 Customs officers from 45 different countries the opportunity to work at the WCO as Professional Associates (PAs).
