The World Customs Organization (WCO), in cooperation with Jordan Customs, funded by the Eurocustoms Fund, organized a Risk Management Framework Workshop in Amman, Jordan from 28 January to 1 February 2018. The workshop was attended by 20 officers from the Headquarters and regional/field-level offices.

In their opening remarks, Mr. Qudah and the WCO representative highlighted the importance of risk-based approach while selecting cargo, passengers and conveyances for physical examination. They also emphasized the importance of the Risk Management Framework in order to improve risk management practices throughout the organization.
Main elements of risk management at the organizational level including principles, framework and process were covered during the first day of the workshop; then the focus was given on the development of a risk register. Several group works and exercises assisted participants to link the theory with practice. Each session was followed by a lively "questions and answers" session.
During the workshop, participants discussed how to identify risks considering strategic objectives as well as how to analyze them and identify possible treatments by utilizing the methodology explained in the WCO Customs Risk Management Compendium.
Following the Workshop; the first version of the Jordan Customs’ risk register, which will be incorporated into the Risk Management Framework, was drafted.
