WCO Facilitates Strategic Planning Workshop in Jamaica

15 February 2018

The WCO successfully facilitated a workshop on Strategic Planning at the Jamaica Customs Agency (JCA) in Kingston from 5 to 9 February 2018.  The workshop was funded with the generous support of EUROCUSTOMS.

The main objective of the workshop was to review the JCA’s mission, vision and value statements and draft a 3-year JCA-specific Strategic Plan to fully integrate Customs reform, modernization, and trade facilitation, including the WTO Agreement on Trade Facilitation (TFA).  The new draft Strategic Plan supports JCA’s core mandates of contributing to the development of the country through robust trade facilitation, enhanced revenue collection and modernization supported by technology advancements and human resources management, as key enablers of its forward looking agenda.

Seventeen (17) mid- to senior level JCA officials took part in the workshop.  Participants were familiarized with the methodologies and benefits of strategic planning and performance measurement.  The successful completion of the draft Strategic Plan established the foundation for further collaboration with Jamaica under the framework of the tailor-made track of the WCO Mercator Programme.
