WCO Data Model Workshop in Bahamas

The World Customs Organization (WCO) organized a workshop on Data Model in Nassau, Bahamas, from 5 to 9 March 2018 for the benefit of Customs officers from the Bahamas Customs and Excise department.

More than 30 participants from the national Customs Administration of Bahamas attended the Workshop, which was facilitated by 2 WCO Data Model (DM) experts. The purpose of the workshop was to support Bahamas Customs to adopt and efficiently implement the WCO DM as part of the national Bahamas Customs’ reform and modernization program.

During the Workshop, the WCO experts made a number of presentations on the strategic benefits of the WCO DM, the ways to ensure harmonization in processes and data requirements and enhance the coordination between stakeholders involved in cross border movement of cargo, and past and future work to ensure that the WCO policy on DM remain relevant to address the challenges of Customs in the 21st Century.

Customs officials were also invited to undertake mapping exercises of key national data elements to the WCO DM version 3.7 using real life examples, including the current Single Window elements.
