A leadership and Management development support to Algerian Customs

15 May 2018

With the objective to strengthen senior management capacity to lead and drive reforms, the WCO organized a Leadership and Management Development (LMD) Workshop from 29 April to 10 May 2018 for 18 senior managers of Algerian customs.  After the adoption of the new strategy, it has become clear that building management capabilities and modern leadership skills will help to install a more effective management culture.

Senior managers from various departments and units of Algerian Customs participated in the workshop. A wide range of topics was covered such as leadership, integrity, gender and equity, negotiations, people management, strategic and personal communication and change management. The workshop highlighted the importance of leadership and management skills, as well as the responsibilities of individual managers, to drive modernization and change within their work and personal life.

Throughout the workshop, many of the current and future challenges of the Algerian Customs were discussed. Participants shared their experiences and were able to underline procedures and practices to be improved in the future. They also presented and discussed significant change initiatives aiming at developing several areas within their Administration.

All participants recognized the importance of the Workshop in assessing and improving their personal and managerial skills in their work environment. As a result many of them committed to make fundamental changes in their management styles to be in line with the work environment as well as in their listening and communication abilities.
