It is a unique specialized tool, aimed at improving the knowledge and know-how of Customs officers deployed in the field, and goes hand in hand with a training programme.

Based on the mandate by the Policy Commission during its 79th session, the Cruise Ships Working Group held its first meeting on 27 November 2018 at the Headquarters of the World Customs Organization (WCO). It was chaired by Mr. Robert Lake, Customs Attaché at the Embassy of New Zealand in Brussels, and brought together over 40 Brussels-based Customs Attachés as well as representatives from the Cruise Ships industry.

Operation DEMETER IV targeted illegal transboundary movements of waste. A total of 75 Customs administrations participated in the joint global operation, the biggest Customs operation targeting illegal trafficking of waste to date, which yielded over 326,133 tonnes and 54,782 pieces of different types of waste.

From 11 to 13 November 2018, the UNODC-WCO Container Control Programme and the Israel Customs Directorate organized a seminar and study visit to Haifa port for ten officers from Port Control Units based in Albania, Montenegro and Bosnia and Herzegovina. The seminar featured presentations by Customs and port experts, as well as professional discussions covering a wide range of topics relating to working procedures at the port of Haifa and to Israel Customs as a whole.
