WCO participates in TIACA’s International Air Cargo Forum and Exhibition 2018 in Toronto

25 October 2018

Over 3,000 decision-makers, the majority of whom were airline industry representatives, gathered at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre in Toronto (Canada) on 16 and 17 October 2018 for TIACA’s International Air Cargo Forum and Exhibition 2018.

Some of the panels during the Forum addressed Customs-related issues such as supply chain security, the use of Big Data for the aviation industry’s communications with border agencies, the possible input by Blockchain Technology to a secure data-sharing environment, and challenges posed by the growth in E-Commerce.

The WCO contributed to the Opening Plenary Session, moderated by Mr. Vladimir Zubkov, TIACA Secretary General, on the theme of “Air Cargo Development – where we are and where we want to be”.  Representing the WCO, Mr. Luc de Blieck, Deputy Director, Facilitation and Procedures, outlined developments, within Customs’ remit,  in aviation supply chain security and the challenges ahead.  He highlighted, inter alia, the recently approved Framework of Standards on Cross-Border E-Commerce and Immediate Release Guidelines.

In line with its policy, the WCO has formed partnerships with all its stakeholders, including international organizations and the private sector, and continues to work towards developing new ones.

Other speakers in the panel, representing TIACA, IATA, FIATA and the airline industry, applauded the WCO for its “open-door” policy focused on involving its stakeholders in the development of its many instruments and tools.
