The WCO Security Programme is pushing its training agenda forward. Accordingly, a national Strategic Trade Control Enforcement (STCE) Training Workshop was conducted in Lima, Peru from 27 to 29 August 2018.
The STCE training was created to support operational Customs staff in identifying weapons of mass destruction, their constituent parts, means of delivery and dual-use materials as well as items needed to manufacture them. The audience comprised frontline Customs staff from Peru’s various border crossings, including the Port of Callao.
The event introduced participants to the concept of STCE and covered controlled materials and equipment, and how to identify them. Through this event, and following the conclusion of Operation Cosmo 2, STCE training activities are back in full swing in Latin America, supporting the development of STCE capacities of countries in the region.
With the accreditation of two new STCE trainers, the event provided an opportunity to expand the cadre of trainers in Latin America. As a result, the WCO has increased its capacities to deliver further STCE events in the region.
