A diagnostic mission and a technical assistance mission visited Vietnam in April and November 2019 respectively with the objective to provide support to the General Department of Vietnam Customs with its strategic Risk Management framework in the field of Illegal Wildlife Trade (IWT).
During the diagnostic mission, two WCO Accredited experts carried out an in-depth assessment of the administration’s IWT Risk Management framework, legal parameters as well as processes and procedures, according to WCO’s standards and international best practices.
The implementation mission, conducted between 28 October and 01 November 2019, consisted of high-level discussions around the topic and a training focused on the development of IWT Risk Profiles. The training was attended by some 33 officers from both head office, ports and regional offices.
Similar missions are being conducted in Malawi and Nigeria, and will be followed by an international Risk Management workshop and an exchange of customs personnel.
These events are carried out under the auspices of the WCO Environment Programme INAMA Project, which aims to enhance the enforcement capacity of targeted Customs administrations in the field of IWT, and are funded by the German Agency for International Development (GiZ).
