In the margin of the Council Session, WCO Secretary General Kunio Mikuriya signed virtually the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the establishment of the Regional Customs Laboratory in Peru with the Deputy Head of Peruvian Customs, Ms. Marilú Llerena, on 10 December 2020.
Dr. Mikuriya congratulated Peru for establishing the first Regional Customs Laboratory in South America, and expressed his hope that it would serve as one of the regional hubs for cooperation among Customs chemists in the Americas region, and for sharing best practices and capacity building.
Regional Vice-Chair Mr. Werner Ovalle as well as Director Ping Liu and his chemical experts from the WCO Directorate of Tariff and Trade Affairs attended the ceremony together with senior managers of Customs and Customs Laboratory in Peru.
