The Malawi Revenue Authority, the Nigeria Customs Service and the General Department of Vietnam Customs come together to fight illegal wildlife trade

17 March 2020

An international Risk Management workshop specifically focused on Illegal Wildlife Trade (IWT) was conducted from 2 to 6 March in Hanoi, Vietnam. The event was hosted by the General Department of Vietnam Customs (GDVC) and funded by the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) under the auspices of the World Customs Organization (WCO)’s INAMA Project.

During the workshop, officers from Malawi, Nigeria, and Vietnam worked together on the development of joint IWT risk indicators and risk profiles, discussed ways to foster international cooperation and analyzed case studies. In addition, they identified their common strengths and challenges and looked at the way forward.

This mission was the continuation of the activities that began with diagnostic and implementation missions in all three countries and serve as a fundamental basis for effective and efficient risk management mechanisms focusing on IWT, case selection and case identification.
