On 25 February 2021 the WCO Secretariat published a new Secretariat Note providing guidance with regard to the implementation by Members of the twelve measures outlined in the December 2020 Council Resolution on the Role of Customs in facilitating the cross-border movement of situationally critical medicines and vaccines. The Secretariat Note also provides information on WCO instruments and tools that can support the implementation of the Resolution and contains examples of Members’ practices in that regard.

On 16 February 2021, WCO Secretary General Dr. Kunio Mikuriya, in his capacity as the depositary of the International Convention on the Simplification and Harmonization of Customs Procedures (Revised Kyoto Convention - RKC), received the original of Uzbekistan’s Instrument of Accession to the RKC from His Excellency Mr. Dilyor Khakimov, Ambassador of the Republic of Uzbekistan to the Kingdom of Belgium. Uzbekistan now becomes the 127th Contracting Party to this Convention, which will enter into force for Uzbekistan on 16 May 2021.

Today, the World Customs Organization (WCO) and International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) released our Joint WCO-ICAO Guiding Principles for Pre-Loading Advance Cargo Information and Joint WCO-ICAO Guidelines on Alignment of the Customs Authorized Economic Operator and Aviation Security Regulated Agent/Known Consignor Programmes. These Guiding Principles and Guidelines are a result of continuous joint efforts over the last 10 years, following serious threats and vulnerabilities to international trade supply chains.

On 10 February 2021, the WCO Secretary General Dr. Kunio Mikuriya met with H.E Dr. Isaac W. Nyenabo II, the Ambassador of the Republic of Liberia in Brussels at the Headquarters of the WCO, following the deposit on 14 December 2020 of the country’s act of ratification of the International Convention on the Simplification and Harmonization of Customs Procedures (Revised Kyoto Convention - RKC). Liberia now becomes the 125th Contracting Party to this Convention and it will enter into force for the country on 14 March 2021.
