Prime Minister Suga of Japan expresses his appreciation for the WCO’s role

During his stay in Japan, the WCO Secretary General, Dr. Kunio Mikuriya, met with Japan’s Prime Minister, Mr. Yoshihide Suga, on 14 January 2021. 

Prime Minister Suga expressed his strong endorsement of the WCO’s role in enhancing the global Customs network, contributing to improvements in the business environment and protecting citizens from health and safety threats at borders.  Dr. Mikuriya thanked Prime Minister Suga for his steadfast support for the global Customs community.

Secretary General Mikuriya also took the opportunity to meet with the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, Mr. Taro Aso, and with the Chief Cabinet Secretary, Mr. Katsunobu Kato, to inform them about recent WCO activities aimed at safeguarding the supply chain during the COVID-19 pandemic.
