As part of the World Customs Organization (WCO) Customs Operational Practices for Enforcement and Seizures (COPES) Programme, the WCO has launched the Customs Enforcement Curriculum for Assistant Collectors (CECAC) Project, aimed at assisting Pakistan Customs in building its capacity to enhance security and combat serious crime, particularly by preparing Pakistan’s future senior officers to address the challenges ahead.
After a two-week pilot training course for Assistant Collectors of Pakistan Customs in February 2021 and the completion of an institutional assessment mission last September, the next stage in the CECAC Project was the organization of a train-the-trainer session for 12 Pakistan Customs officers in Karachi, from 8 to 12 November 2021.
The purpose of this initiative is to achieve an objective of sustainability for the CECAC Project by training instructors from within the country itself. The participants were therefore introduced to techniques of running courses, as well as facilitating learning and teaching. They were also called upon to demonstrate their skills and knowledge in relation to enforcement. This training will be followed up during the coming months with mentoring conducted by COPES accredited experts, starting in the first quarter of 2022.
