The WCO supports the development of the Data Analytics capabilities of Oman Customs

22 June 2022

Upon request from the Director General of Oman Customs, Mr. Saeed bin Khamis Al Ghaithi, the World Customs Organization (WCO) organised, from 30 May to 3 June 2022 in Muscat, Oman, a workshop to train 15 Customs officers on data analytics and mirror analysis. The mission benefitted from the financial support of the Customs Cooperation Fund (CCF) of Korea.

As explained by the Director General the mission’s objectives aimed at mobilising data in Oman Customs through drafting a strategy on data mobilization and developing the capacities of high potential Customs officers.

In addition to the training on R and mirror analysis, the mission discussed and explained the importance of adopting a holistic approach to fully benefit from Data Analytics. Therefore, the WCO mission recommended adopting a progressive approach to ensure ownership of the transition to data and develop internal capacities through, inter alia, the establishment of strong relationships and partnerships with relevant stakeholders.
