Korea signs an agreement with the WCO to increase their financial support to the Language Fund

On 7 March 2022, Dr. Kunio Mikuriya, the Secretary General of the World Customs Organization and Mr. Jaehyeon Lim, the Commissioner of the Korea Customs Service (KCS) signed a joint declaration to increase the contribution of the KCS to the WCO’s Language Fund.

The Language Fund is used to promote the participation of Customs administrations in WCO’s activities by translating documents and providing interpretation services into additional languages, other than the organization’s official languages.

Secretary General Mikuriya also discussed the WCO theme of the year, namely “Scaling up Customs Digital Transformation by Embracing a Data Culture and Building a Data Ecosystem” and highlighted the importance for Customs administrations to adopt progressive approaches to collect and successfully exploit data to drive decision-making.

With this agreement, KCS seeks to respond to WCO Members increased need for translation and interpretation.
