The mission on the implementation of the Authorized Economic Operator (AEO) Programme in Malagasy Customs was successful in every respect. The mission took place from 24 to 28 July 2023, under the auspices of the "Accelerate Trade Facilitation Programme" funded by His Majesty’s Revenue & Customs (HMRC) of the United Kingdom, in the framework of its multiyear partnership with Malagasy Customs for the effective implementation of the WTO Trade Facilitation Agreement (TFA).
This event aroused a great deal of interest within the local Customs community, and the topics addressed were considered to be extremely comprehensive and relevant.
The technical discussions which followed covered a range of essential topics related to the implementation of the AEO Programme. The international experts shared their in-depth knowledge of the simplified procedures related to AEO, the Customs arrangements to be put in place in order to support the AEO Programme smoothly, and the criteria and benefits for authorized economic operators. Particular attention was paid to international best practices, with concrete examples of countries that have already introduced similar programmes successfully.
In conclusion, the mission on the implementation of the AEO Programme in Malagasy Customs was a resounding success. The keen interest shown by the local Customs community, and the thoroughness and relevance of the topics addressed, helped to make this initiative a real highlight of Customs management in Madagascar. The WCO is pleased by the continuation of its partnership with Malagasy Customs under the "Accelerate Trade Facilitation Programme" for sustainable development and economic growth.
