The WCO conducted a WCO Data Model National Workshop in Bishkek, Kyrgyz Republic, from 16 to 20 January 2023 at the request of the State Customs Service (SCS) under the Ministry of Finance of the Kyrgyz Republic, with funding from the Customs Cooperation Fund (CCF) of China. The goal of this Workshop was to assist the SCS in designing and implementing the WCO Data Model, which is to serve as the foundation for developing a new Customs Information System to replace the legacy system.
During the Workshop, the host country shared information with WCO experts on the legacy system, the needs of SCS, the design of the new system, and the need for compliance with the WCO Data Model. SCS also provided information on the current development status of the most recent information system, and on the Smart Border pilot project at one Customs post.
WCO experts presented SCS with Indonesia’s experiences of developing the Customs Information System and implementing the WCO Data Model. They also encouraged all participants to complete the mapping of the Kyrgyz National Dataset using the WCO DM App. The participants mapped the Kyrgyz National Dataset to ensure that the new Customs Information System that was being developed conformed with the WCO Data Model as an international standard.
WCO Experts provided several recommendations based on the outcome of the Workshop, including completing the mapping of the SCS dataset to the WCO Data Model, continuing and ensuring the sustainability of in-source development by SCS, and producing My Information Packages (MyIPs) and sharing them with global stakeholders via the WCO’s MyIP repository.
