Mexican Customs Officials Participate in Virtual Training Workshop on Building a Culture of Integrity

05 June 2023

A team of 29 officials from the National Customs Agency of Mexico (ANAM) engaged in a virtual training workshop focused on fostering a culture of integrity on 23 and 25 May 2023.  The workshop, titled "Building a Culture of Integrity," was designed and delivered as part of the WCO Anti-Corruption & Integrity Promotion (A-CIP) Programme, addressing specific needs identified by ANAM.

ANAM is committed to strengthening its organizational culture of integrity through change management, cultivating a supportive work environment, and actively involving its staff. Embracing the principles outlined in the WCO Revised Arusha Declaration key factor of Morale & Organizational Culture, ANAM aims to encourage employees at all levels to take responsibility for upholding the administration’s integrity.

The event was facilitated by experts from the National Customs Directorate of Uruguay and the Federal Administration of Public Revenue of Argentina (AFIP), who shared their expertise and insights with the participants. The workshop saw the participation of officials from various departments critical to shaping ANAM's organizational culture, including strategic planning, human resources, communications, and international relations.

During the constructive discussions, participants had the opportunity to delve into key concepts such as culture, sub-culture, culture of integrity, and culture of leadership. They also identified the strengths and areas for improvement in ANAM's organizational culture, while exploring the ten key factors of the Revised Arusha Declaration as a means to drive cultural change.

Supported by funding from Norad and Canada, the WCO A-CIP Programme currently assists over 20 countries across five WCO regions. Through initiatives like this workshop, the Programme aims to combat corruption and promote integrity in Customs administrations worldwide.

This training workshop marks a significant step forward for ANAM in nurturing a robust culture of integrity and fostering ethical practices within the organization.
