The World Customs Organization (WCO) is pleased to announce the release of the 4th version of its Cargo Targeting System (WCO CTS), which will be rolled out in the coming months to countries where it is already in use as well as to new users. This new version brings significant improvements and enhanced functionality to the system.
This improvement of the WCO CTS benefitted from the funding of the UK Home Office’s International Operations department. It builds on the system’s user-friendliness for frontline cargo targeting personnel, offering improved targeting capability whilst retaining its speed and ease of use. Underlying software components were also updated or replaced to ensure that the WCO CTS continues to operate reliably, effectively and securely.
Mr. Pranab Kumar Das, Director, of the WCO Compliance and Facilitation directorate, welcomed this upgrade, stating that “This new version of the WCO CTS demonstrates the organization’s commitment in meeting the needs of its Members. This tool, along with similar or more advanced tools on the market, enables the filing of advance electronic cargo manifest data, the assessment of risks, and targeting of high-risk consignments, which are critical elements for supply chain security.”
Mr. Nick Fowler, Head of UK Home Office’s International Operations department, highlighted the importance of this upgrade, saying “We are delighted to partner with the WCO to upgrade and support the installation of the WCO CTS around the world. Automated targeting is critical to tackling organized crime supply chains through the identification and disruption of illicit commodity flows across borders.”
The WCO CTS is a cargo manifest risk assessment and targeting solution developed by the WCO for Customs administrations across the globe. It allows those adopting the solution to implement international best practices in cargo risk assessment and targeting, including the WCO SAFE Framework of Standards.
