The WCO provides technical assistance to Madagascar on Risk Management

31 March 2023

The WCO organised a mission to provide technical assistance to the Malagasy Customs regarding the implementation of international trade facilitation standards in the area of Risk Management, particularly as defined by the World Trade Organization Agreement on Trade Facilitation.

This mission took place from 06 to 10 March 2023 in Antananarivo, Madagascar under the auspices of the Accelerate Trade Facilitation Programme, financially supported by His Majesty's Revenue & Customs (HMRC) of the United Kingdom.

The mission was led by two WCO experts from Morocco and Burkina Faso. They analyzed the current situation of the Risk Management process through working meetings with several Malagasy Customs structures thus enabling the latter to become familiar with the procedures in force and the achievements made, and to assess the margins for progress. Eventually, recommendations were formulated in the form of a project designed to modernize and strengthen Risk Management.

The closing ceremony was presided over by the Director General of Malagasy Customs, who expressed his satisfaction with the results and recommendations obtained and validated the deliverables produced.

The WCO is pleased with its continued commitment to a multi-year strategic partnership for sustainable development and economic growth under the Accelerate Trade Facilitation Programme.
