The SECO-WCO GTFP supports the 5th Edition of IMF Advanced Course on Tax and Customs Administration Management

04 May 2023

From 24 to 28 April 2023, a new edition of the IMF Advanced Course on Tax and Customs Administration Management was delivered with the support of the SECO-WCO Global Trade Facilitation Programme (GTFP). This is a comprehensive course addressed to top and middle management officials of the Tax and Customs Administrations from the Americas region to enhance their capabilities in Strategic Planning based on risk management and deepen their knowledge of the new trends related to taxation and international trade in a dynamic context.

The IMF Advanced Course on Tax and Customs Administration Management is a joint initiative between the International Monetary Fund (IMF) through its Technical Assistance Center for Central America, Panama, and the Dominican Republic (CAPTAC-DR), the Inter-American Development Bank (IADB), the Inter-American Center of Tax Administrations (CIAT),  the Institute of Fiscal Studies of Spain (IEF), the National Distance Education University (UNED), and the WCO through the GTFP.

This 5th edition kicked off on 21 November 2022, with an 8-week virtual phase, concluding with face-to-face sessions in Antigua, Guatemala, from 24-28 April 2023. A total of 24 participants undertook the master classes, including managers from Colombia, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama and Peru. The WCO has supported this initiative since 2020 when the first Course edition was launched.

In 2022, the WCO participated in the delivery of some sessions through a WCO Accredited Expert who facilitated the discussion around "International Customs Practices", a topic which was developed under the module "Taxation Trends".

The World Customs Organization and the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) firmly believe that the Tax and Customs Administrations are essential for the countries’ competitiveness and economic growth and continue their efforts to support initiatives towards the capacity building of the Members.
